Finding a suitable native wood in Montana:
North of Libby, in the Yaak Valley of northwest Montana, are forests similar to the northern boreal forests in Europe where larch has been harvested for centuries in Scandinavia for churches, bridges, and other structures still viable, because of the wood's durability and resistance to water and rot. I heard of a logger in the Yaak Valley who had a huge larch burl log and other logs available. So began the journey to pick up the wood.
